What Colors Are Best For A Small Room

Now is the era of condominiums, single-occupancy pads and bit-sized inexpensive housing. Most homeowners are confronted with the problem of space. To broaden the area is usually not an option therefore the most sensible remedy is to make the most out of the limited space. Lack of space however can be counterbalanced with coziness and comfort.

Beautifying tiny spaces can be a bit complex. Herein should come smart interior design ideas. Your primary concern should be to make an illusion of space so that a room will look and feel larger. To achieve that effect, one has to pay the most meticulous attention to color and light.

Small rooms are most often windowless. Windowless rooms are a nightmare if you don’t know how to deal with them. The preeminent alternative is of course to build windows. If this is impractical however, you have other options. Definitely, to paint the room with dark colors would add to the suffocating effect. To paint it with an all-white color would make the room look and feel too clean and clinical. So now, this is where your ingenuity should come in. Beginners can get a lot from these interior decorating ideas.

On Hues and Lighting:

  • use light and wan colors such as whites or creams, and cold colors such as blues, purples, and greens. It is advised that walls should be painted with just a single color from floor to ceiling.
  • use light reflective paints and shiny finishes.
  • paint the ceiling with a lighter hue than the walls. White is usually the safest color.
  • have generous amounts of light – be it through windows or uplighters.

On Decorations:

  • use elementary decors which will not drown the whole area. There are more than enough of decorating ideas you can get from magazines, books, the internet, etc.
  • use small patterns.
  • maintain tidiness in the arrangement of decorations as possible.
  • use vertical lines and vertical décors to achieve an effect of height.

On Fixtures:

  • furniture design is vital. Try to match the scale of your furniture to the scale of your room. Select furniture which will not give an elaborate effect. Keep them simple, pale-colored, and delicately proportioned. Custom-built furniture can make the most out of the small space.

On Floors and Doors:

  • keep them neutral and pale. It is a good idea to use one flooring throughout the whole house.

On Trimmings and Add-ons:

  • use glossy and shiny surfaces that will reflect light
  • mirrors are very useful in creating the illusion of added space
  • hang pictures, ornaments, accessories, and other artwork collectively and orderly in groups

Your ultimate objective in designing and decorating small spaces is to achieve a spacious feeling. This calls for diligent preparation and certainly discipline. Disorder is the worst enemy of space and it takes scrupulous care to keep your small space as neat as possible, and at all times.
