Wall treatments are another key element to interior design. If you are unsure of a color, before actually painting the walls, paint a large piece of cardboard and place it on the wall next to a window or other architectural piece in the room to see how the color lays.
This is especially helpful because it offers a preview of how the paint will appear after it dries. Many wall treatment techniques are growing more and more popular as good alternatives for messy wallpaper applications.
The color and treatment that you choose for an area’s walls should be the underlying basis of the entire room’s theme or design. It is crucial for you to make good choices in order to wind up with an appealing, sturdy overall design.

Painting a big piece of cardboard is a great idea. Most paint stores will offer a small tin size as a colour tester. Also some manyfacturers such as C2 and Ben Moore offer (2×3 foot) swatches of colours. Don’t be afraid to buy samples, after all this is your home and you should be comfortable with the colour, expecially if you hire a painter to do the work. Also when considering colour, check your swatch in different areas. Against base boards. Light areas/dark areas and against your flooring! Flooring is the biggest culprit for changing colours.
