One of the quickest and easiest rooms to stage in a house, due to the lack of furniture, is the master bedroom. As with all areas in the house, this one still needs care and application to detail.
Start off by emptying the room of all clutter and your personal possessions, as well as giving it a good clean, before stepping back to concentrate on what a probable purchaser is looking for in the space. Bedrooms should be neutral, comfortable, spacious and maybe even slightly romantic.
Making a room more neutral is usually achieved by wall colors. Use impersonal, peaceful light colors, like white, light tan or beige. Keep away from colors that make a statement such as yellow or orange. This also applies to the bed linen – you can throw in a pillow or two of a differing color, but that’s all you really require.
Creating space by removing obstacles is one of main intentions of staging. However tiny a space may be, successful staging can give the semblance of space. Get rid of all unnecessary furniture except the basics such as the closet and maybe small nightstands. Move the bed as far as feasible away from the doorway and remember to treat the indentations in carpet with steam or hot water and be sure the door can open smoothly without obstruction.
Unless the room is very tiny make sure the bed is king or queen sized. if it is small then refrain making the room look even smaller and use a double bed. Make the bed look good so that it draws attention as it is the focal point of any bedroom. Employ or ask advise from a professional stager if design is not your strong point and consider purchasing new bedding to use when potential buyers arrive.
The next step would be to clear the closets and shelves if there are any and leave just a few bits of clothing, mainly as decoration. Use wooden or padded hangers in your closet, although these can cost a little more, they give a favorable impression.
