The Benefits of Interior Stucco

Applying a stucco finish to the interior of the home is an excellent way to restore ordinary walls, or cover up unsightly gouges and cracks. It then has the added benefit of lending a stylish and luxurious appearance to any space. Stucco inside the house can be done in a variety of shades to create a mood for any room or hallway. Instead of tiles, interior stucco is a great option for bathroom walls because of it’s extreme durability.

Generally consisting of the same type of mortar used on outer walls, interior stucco is simply applied in thinner layers than its exterior counterpart. The texture is also usually more subdued, with a trowel or metal comb already sufficient for the finish to be achieved. As stucco turns white when it dries, unlike the whitewashed exterior walls, most find it more suitable to paint interior stucco. Ideal colors for a rooms walls would be warm colors like butter yellow, or neutral hues like pastel pink, or beige. But it depends on the homeowners personality: bright colors on stucco walls are possible, too, in order to create a more intense atmosphere. The limit is the taste and the budget.

A great benefit to using interior stucco is that any cracks or dents, which might occur down the road, can be easily repaired by simply using a spackling compound to fill them in. Plus, any repairs are easily hidden by the rough, unfinished texture of interior stucco. But cracks and damages are preventable with materials of good quality, and expert application.

A thorough stucco job requires extensive resources, but the longevity and the beauty of the result is always worth it. Practical homeowners can consider the economical option of a faux stucco finish for the inner walls of the house. This can be done by covering the walls with three layers of all purpose jointing compound. The texture is achieved by using a rough applicator such as a trowel. After it has dried, it can be painted over with the desired shade.
