Main bedroom staging is one of the easier tasks when staging a home, since the furniture present in the room is quite restricted. As with all spaces in the home, this one still needs care and application to detail.
Before focusing on the wants of the possible buyer you need to clean the room and remove any clutter and your personal style. A room that gives the impression of space, comfort and neutrality, with maybe a hint of romance, is your goal.
Neutrality is mainly depicted by the color of the walls. Use impartial, cool light colors, like white, light tan or beige. Bright reds, yellows or oranges are too flashy and should be avoided along with any colours that attract the eyes to the walls. This also is relevant to the bed linen – you can throw in a pillow or two of a bold color, but that’s all you really need.
Giving free movement around the bedroom is achieved by removing restrictions on the floor. This applies even to the smallest of areas, a well staged area can give the feeling of space. Take out any furniture that is not required and leave behind only the elementary items such as the closet and the bed. Move the bed as far as feasible away from the doorway and remember to treat the depressions in carpet with steam or hot water and be sure the door can open freely without obstruction.
Unless the area is very little make sure the bed is king or queen sized. if it is small then avoid making the room look even tinier and use a double bed. The bed is the most essential piece of furniture in the room so pay painstaking attention to it and make sure it looks great. Invest in new bedding and even consider a new headboard, but unless you are very confident in your eye for style, consult with a professional stager before you go shopping.
Next you need to look at your closets, apart from a few items of clothing for design purposes take away the rest of the clothing out. Use wooden or padded hangers in your closet, admittedly these may cost a little more, they give a favorable impression.
