It can take time and creativity to design your perfect room. There are so many things you need to take into account, especially if you are new at it. To help get you started, here are some helpful hints.
1) The first thing to look at is the personalities that are in the house. Create designs you really like if you are living by yourself. If you and your flatmate or partner has varying preferences, this can cause problems. Be prepared to compromise when making decisions on design and colour.
2) Browse through magazines and design books to get an idea of what you really like and what makes you comfortable. If you are having trouble finding your creative side, looking at magazines will help you imagine what those blank walls could look like when finished.
3) The colours of the room will set the tone for the space so really take your time on that one. If you have a favourite colour, see if it will fit in with the theme you have chosen for your room. Pick colours that will compliment your furniture if you have bought it already or want to reuse some that you have. You can draw upon some of the colours in fabrics you will use in the room. Make sure you buy bed linen that complements the colour of the walls.
4) It is important to position your furniture wisely so that you do not overfill the room. Making a room look and feeler smaller is not a good idea. Play around with the positioning until it feels right to you.
5) You can turn a house into a home by adding some cleverly placed accessories like candles or lamps. Plants and bright flowers can brighten a room up. They keep the room alive instead of an empty space when you are not in them. A crystal vase or some photos can also soften a room.
Design doesn’t have to be hard. Just find a style that suits you and have fun experimenting with colour and furnishings until you have a room that compliments your lifestyle.
