Painting Your Bathroom

Bathroom Accessories

Painting your bathroom is not a hard thing to do. The other day I was at a friend’s house, and he was telling me about his daughter that was in college; she had acquired an apartment to keep from staying at the dorm. The apartment needed fixing up a bit, so she decided to get some paint and try to make it look a little better, apparently she had made a deal with the landlord and they would take the paint job off of the rent. I agreed to drive to the girl’s apartment with my friend just to check and see how things were going.

Bathroom Remodel

When we arrived at her new home, we found her trying to paint the bathroom wall, which had a darker color than the color she was now using. She told us that she had put on three coats of paint already and you could still see the old color bleeding through once the new paint dried.

Apparently, while she was at class, her roommate had begun painting and she used a brush. The paint was dry, but not only could you see the old paint showing through, but she had used a brush to paint the wall. You could still see the brush strokes and some of them were going in different directions.

So I would like to tell anyone that does not know anything about painting; if you use a brush t do some painting there are steps that you can do to keep from having the same troubles that these girls had.

Painting over an old paint job, especially one that has a darker color, requires that you first should paint the first coat with a darker primer color. This will make it easier to put on the second coat of the color you really want to have the bathroom wall to be. When you go purchase the paint, talk to the person in the paint department; tell them of the situation, and they can help you pick out a good primer that will help get your wall painted as easily as it can be. These people have been trained in all aspects of paint, and if there is a situation where the employee does not know what to do they can simply ask their supervisor.

Second, it is better to use a roller than a brush. Rolling the bathroom wall will not only save paint, but by the time you had spent purchasing extra paint because of bleeding; you could have purchased a large roller, a small roller, and an edger. Many walls will definitely have to have more than one coat, as these college girls found out. Trying to get by as your money is on a budget, usually causes more heart ache than not, and many times takes longer to do the job.

I respect these girls because they did try to do a good job, but their inexperience, really gave them a good experience that actually taught them a valuable lesson, and next time they paint something they will know what to do.

There are many tricks and tips that people can use when remodeling their bathroom; before you rush out and purchase anything check with the employees in the paint department and ask for any type of help. You will find that they will be a very big help.
