6 Ways To Use an Area Rug

6 Ways To Use an Area Rug
 by: John Murray

Area rugs are a powerful tool to changing the look of your room or adding the finishing touches. No matter how small your budget is you are certain to be able to afford an area rug. They are affordable and available and carpet dealers and department stores. The variety is endless and you are certain to find the right area rug for the job. Here are 6 ways to use an area rug in your home.

1. Save Carpet In Children’s Room

Kids can be hard on their carpet in their rooms and carpet is so expensive to replace. Using an area rug you can accomplish a few things. You can save wear and tear and staining of the carpet. You can add extra cushioning to the floor area keeping it warmer and comfortable. And you can let the kids have some fun and participate in decorating their room. You can even choose a theme and give their entire room a new look.

2. Accent On Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors have made a big comeback in the past few years. And they are beautiful! But too much can be a bit overwhelming, and they don’t retain any heat so in the cooler months you can find your footsies getting chilly. Using an area rug in a large room such as a living room can add a beautiful focal point to the room and accentuate your hardwood floors even more. It will also keep the floor warmer and cozier. Because there are so many types of areas to choose from you won’t have any problem finding one that works. You can choose from Persian rugs, Oriental rugs, Southwestern rugs, traditional styles or contemporary styles.

3. Focal Point

Use an area rug to create a focal point in your room. A family room, rec room, games room, or living room are all excellent candidates for a focal point area rug. If you have a games room a rectangular rug beneath the pool table looks awesome. If you have a fireplace an area rug in front of the fireplace adds elegance and luxury and it’s a comfy place to sit and enjoy the fire. Now an area rug has another benefit. It will save wear and tear on your carpet, especially if you place it in the high traffic areas. Choose something that stands out from your room decor or blends in. Your choice, let your creative juices flow.

4. Entrances

Most people think area rugs are too large for an entrance but they are available in the smaller sizes. So whether you have a grand entrance or a smaller entrance you should consider making a decor statement where people enter. You could place a beautiful oval braided rug at your entrance, or a bold rectangular rug. Make it blend or stand out. Your choice. An area rug at your entrance also has some function use as well. The worst thing for your carpets is oil, dirt, and sand. Even a clean pair of shoes will track particles onto the carpet. Using an area rug will help reduce what gets tracked because it will act as a catcher. If you have a tiled or linoleum entrance it will also keep it looking cleaner as the rug can pick up the dirt or mud off of shoes and it’s easily cleaner up with a vacuum.

5. Cover Worn Carpet

We’ll all face worn carpets at some point and lets face it carpet replacement is a big investment that we can’t all afford. An affordable area rug is a perfect way to give your room an entire new look and disguise that worn rug. Most rugs wear in the middle of the room where they get the heavier traffic and the outer foot or two often still look relatively new. So buy a huge area rug that compliments the carpet already on the floor leaving just the outer edge that’s less worn exposed. You’ll be amazed at how different your room looks. Area rugs are also a good way to hide a damaged or stained area of carpet.

6. Renter Choices

If you are renting you certainly don’t want to spend your money on carpets. Whether your carpets are worn or they just don’t fit your decor you can give your apartment a facelift for a minimal amount of money. Then when you move you can roll up your area carpet and take it with you to your new home. There’s no point in begging the landlord to change the carpets because unless they are totally shot chances are you won’t get your wish. And even if you were willing to change them yourself your landlord might not approve but you’ll get no arguments about putting down an area rug. In fact you don’t even need permission. You can use one or more area rugs throughout your apartment to add your own personal touch and finish your home decor.

Area rugs are one of the most affordable and easiest ways to give a room a makeover or add a style or accent to a room. You can choose from round, oval, octagon, and square area rugs. Choose Persian, Oriental, Southwestern, Native American, Indian, Mexican, Traditional, Contemporary, or what ever other style you want. Your choices are truly endless.

I’ve listed 6 ways to use an area rug but there’s many other ways to utilize an area rug. These 6 ways should get your creativity flowing on other ways you could use an area rug. So are you ready to give your room a makeover?

Home Improvement Decor Tips – About Home Improvement Designing

Decorating the home to improve it looks is simple. You just need to understand that decorating can include painting, including techniques and so forth.

The marketplace has a variety of paints. You can even mix and match the paints, or buy a single color and decorate the home to the desired effect.

For those who want the paint easier to clean – choose latex paint (water-based paint) or paints composed of solvent-base.

The flat paints are better for walls that are not smoothed out. Whereas for the woodworks - semi-glossy paints are much better. Solvent paints or oil-base paints are often used on metals, for those who like the damp appeal – they can go on walls as well. But remember, if solvent or oil paints are used on wall without being thinned out first, the paint will PEEL after some time passes.

Basically the flat paints are better for interior walls and ceilings. The semi-glossy paints – for ceiling, interior walls and woodwork.

Paintbrushes should never shed. For this reason the nylon bristled brushes are the best. Do not use a crowbar or hard-surface narrow head object to open cans of paint. Better use special paint opener that go free with the purchase of paint cans.

You can also think about wallpaper trimmings to bring in a special effect. For example, paint a living room, coloring it a type of greenish color. A wallpaper at the trim of the walls with a lighter green with a hint of mist or white in the lining and produce a lighter effect in the room.

Wallpaper is also a great choice as you can purchase paper with multi-colors and single colors. The paper also gives a possibility to add to the design, by playing with texture and designing patterns.

The marbled types of wallpapers will look nice for larger areas in the home. Speckle wallpapering are better for smaller areas as they can offset vases, lamps, and pictures on the wall.

When making a purchase of a wallpaper, opt for the water-base papers – they often stand up. Wallpapers are in wood-like resemblance, marble, speckle, and many designs.

How to Remodel Your Home?

Home Remodeling can be as simple as changing your interior decoration, or as complex as a major construction job. It can be done in a jiffy, or involve spending long stretches of time in a house that looks more like a construction site than a residence.

An effective remodeling job might be as involved and complicated as a major build-out, or it might be as uncomplicated as changing the drapes and carpeting.

No matter what the project, however, it will require careful planning if you are to avoid expensive delay and unnecessary expenses. Planning need not be all that difficult, depending upon the type of job you are planning to do. Simply changing the color scheme of your bedrooms may only require a short list materials and an hour spent at the local home improvement depot. Pick a color from a chart, buy the paint, the brushes or rollers, a tarp – maybe even a little paper hat to prevent accidently changing the color of your hair. Simple tasks require simple plans, and offer little danger of running seriously over budget.

Larger remodeling jobs, such as building an addition to your house, are major projects that require professionals of many stripes, and may include architects, engineers, licensed contractors and applications to the local government for construction permits. What if you wanted to change the look of a room by changing not just the wall color, but also the furniture, flooring, lamps and drapes? You can see that as more and more elements are added to the project, more and more time and planning is necessary.

As your project becomes bigger in scope, it naturally becomes more complex. Perhaps changing the color scheme is not enough; perhaps the drapes, furniture, floors and lamps need to be upgraded.

We’ll take you through all aspects of the remodeling process – from the big stuff, like room additions, through the small stuff, like picking out a bathroom sink. We’re not going to overload you with lots of complicated do-it-yourself tips, but we will try to point out the who, what, when, where and why of home remodeling. These types of remodeling projects are prone to unpredictable cost overruns, and are inherently difficult to coordinate and plan. These are precisely the reasons why more time must be spent in the preparation stages of the job.

Building an addition to expand your home, or raising the roof to create more living space – jobs like this demand the use of several different professionals. Quite likely you will need to employ the services of an architect or engineer; you will need to hire a licensed contractor for the construction. You will have to deal with the local government for permits and inspections.
